Tehran has so far rejected the premise of the talks, while Trump has threatened military action if new negotiations do not begin.
--White House says US-Ukraine talks have been -productive-
--White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has told reporters that a readout of talks between National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian officials will be available soon.
--But I can assure you and everybody here and the American people that the news we've received from that meeting throughout the day — and the president has been briefed on — is positive. This meeting has been productive,- she said.
--Neither man participated in the talks in Jeddah, but as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the international media, he was confronted with questions about the future of the US-Ukraine relationship: Was it back on track?
--'What's back on track here, hopefully, is peace. That's what matters the most,- Rubio responded, before growing defensive.
--He also emphasised the US position that Ukraine cannot win its war against Russia on the battlefield.
--'There's no military solution to this war. The solution to this war and the way to end it and to achieve the president's objective of peace is to negotiate. But before you can negotiate, you have to stop shooting at each other,' Rubio said.
--Rubio, Waltz praise Ukraine for 'concrete steps', place pressure on Russia
--In a news conference after the announcement of a possible ceasefire deal, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz offered a positive appraisal of their Ukrainian colleagues, while shifting the pressure to Russia to respond.
--Explicit US security guarantees to Ukraine appear to be missing from agreement
--Donald Trump has said that there are de facto security guarantees — that, if Ukraine signs the rare earth minerals deal, there will be Americans who will be in Ukraine and be involved in the exploitation and sale of those rare mineral earth deposits.
--That would mean that the Russians would have second thoughts about being involved in Ukraine and perhaps restarting the war.
--Ukraine got American security guarantees at the end of the collapse of the Soviet Union, when both the United States and others agreed to underwrite those guarantees in exchange for Ukraine giving up its weapons.
--The Ukrainians argue that those guarantees should still be in place, but clearly they're looking for something much more concrete at this stage, particularly given Volodymyr Zelenskyy's distrust of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
--Zelenskyy says Ukrainian ceasefire proposal would apply to air, sea and land
-The Ukrainian leader has released his first statement after officials from his government met with their US counterparts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
--Zelenskyy echoed the outcome of that meeting, where Kyiv signalled it was ready to accept a 30-day temporary ceasefire proposed by the US.
--In a statement posted on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the ceasefire proposal would-establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days, not only regarding missiles, drones and bombs, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire front line-.
--The United States of America must convince Russia to do this,- Zelenskyy said, adding that — if Russia agrees — the ceasefire would begin immediately.
--Ukraine is ready for peace. Russia must show its readiness to end the war or continue the war. It is time for the full truth.-
--'A red ball flying towards us': Moscow residents recall drone attack-At least seven residential buildings were damaged in the attack, which saw more than 91 drones target the Russian capital and more than 240 more strike elsewhere.
--'I woke up at five in the morning from a loud explosion. There were definitely 10 to 12 explosions from the drones flying in,- one resident said.
